OVER 200 participants enlivened the Fun Run event held in conjunction with the closing ceremony of the 68th Independence Month celebration, organised by the Sekretariat Rukun Negara (SRN) of Lincoln University College (LUC) here today.

The participants were flagged off at approximately 8:15 a.m. on the grounds of LUC and ran for approximately two kilometres around the MBPJ Stadium.

Excitement was evident on the faces of the participants, including those wearing traditional attire and unique outfits.

The run was officiated by the Pro-Chancellor of LUC, Prof. Datuk Dr. Bibi Florina Abdullah.

Also present were the Founder and President of LUC, Dr. Amiya Bhaumik; the Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive Officer of LUC, Datuk Dr. Mohd Yusoff A. Bakar; the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) of LUC, Prof. Datin Dr. Hafizah Che Hassan; and the Registrar of LUC, who is also the Advisor to the LUC SRN, Mohd Nikmat Wahib.

The closing ceremony of the Independence Month celebration was organised by the LUC SRN in collaboration with the Ministry of National Unity.

Besides the run, the event was also enlivened by food and beverage sales organised by various LUC faculties.

In her speech, Dr. Bibi said the patriotic spirit displayed among the students and staff of the organisation was evident during their participation in the run.

“We must work together to ensure a harmonious atmosphere while working and carrying out our respective duties,” she said.

Additionally, Dr. Amiya presented prizes to the winners of the run and the competitions for decoration, poetry recitation (syair), poster, TikTok, and singing, held in conjunction with the Independence Month celebration.

The School of Hospitality and Tourism emerged as the champion of the decoration competition, followed by the School of Dentistry in second place, and the School of Business and Management in third place.

Mohamad Hazlee Roslee from the School of Dentistry won first place in the poetry recitation (syair) competition, second place went to Iman Zafri Zai Izzuddin Sham (School of Pharmacy), while third place was won by Aisyah Ahmad Riza (School of Nursing).

Not to be forgotten, the TikTok competition was won by Amir Shafiq from the Centre for Academic and Quality Development, second place went to S. Hajar (School of Nursing), and third place was won by Norafizah Shafika Pudah (School of Nursing).

Nayab from the Department of Open and Distance Learning (ODL) emerged as the champion of the singing competition. Fitrisya Balqis Roshidin and Siti Adriana Saffiyah Abdul Jalal (School of Nursing) won second place, and Aina Jemat & The Group won third place.

Meanwhile, several students interviewed described the Fun Run as exciting and enjoyable, in addition to fostering patriotic spirit in conjunction with National Day.

Zarif Zakwan, a second-semester student from the School of Medicine, said he was enthusiastic about joining the run even though the distance was short.

For Prescena Francis, the Fun Run helped raise awareness regarding the importance of celebrating National Day.

Christy Vieviedna Robert said that young people, especially students, should understand the true meaning behind the National Day celebration.
